What happens to my licenses if I don't renew at the end of a term?

If an NCE subscription isn't renewed, access for the licensed users typically ends at the end of the current term — for Microsoft 365, this generally means losing access to the associated services (mailbox, OneDrive, Teams, etc.) for those users, though data isn't usually deleted immediately; there's typically a retention/grace period before data is permanently removed.

What to do instead

• If you're unsure whether to renew, most partners can set subscriptions to not auto-renew while you decide, rather than letting things lapse unexpectedly.
• For Azure, there's no "renewal" in the same sense — it's consumption-based, so nothing lapses unless you actively delete resources or the account is suspended for non-payment.

If you're planning not to renew, it's worth discussing data export/retention timing with your partner beforehand.
